Summary:

Performs skilled administrative support work providing specialized services and programs for the library.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include:

Responsible for providing assistance with children and teen library programs in addition to providing technical and reference assistance to children, parents, teachers, and other patrons, at the Main Library and the Spangler Branch, community partner facilities, and satellite branch locations

Assists in scheduling, planning, and presenting Youth Services programs for infant, toddler, pre-school, school-aged, and teen library customers

Assists in planning publicizing and conducting story times, Summer Reading Programs, Battle of the Books and other reading promotions Instructs customers in how to use the library and its print and electronic resources

Assists the public in person, by telephone, or via virtual chat to provide specific information and instructions

According to the Crew Manual of wedding or the deselection of materials, remove materials from the librarys catalog

Process inter-library loan requests

Process customer hold requests and requests for new materials

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or GED and 2 years of experience in a library setting, providing customer service, providing youth services programing, or providing adult services programming. Associates/Technical degree preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of integrated library systems and applications; Microsoft office and/or Google Suite

Knowledge of library collection development best practices; materials and research techniques

Ability to analyze records and statistics

Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment

Ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library customers, library staff, and community partners.

This work requires frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force

Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly

Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound

Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities

Work is generally in a quiet location like a library

Work Location:

This role must work from the location identified at the time of hire with work travel required as needed. Any change of work location, even on a short-term or interim basis, must be reviewed by the Supervisor and HR for approval.
